Speaking at the Energy Producing Factories Summit, DÜZCE GLASS Research and Business Development Manager M. Can Akyüz explained the importance of glass products in energy efficiency and touched upon the projects they implemented in their own factories. Akyüz, “DÜZCE GLASS; It was established in Düzce 2nd OIZ in 2005 by combining its many years of experience in glass processing and logistics. It started flat glass production by commissioning its first float line in 2010 and its second float line in 2016. It commissioned the Mirror and Laminated Glass lines in 2012 and the Coated Glass line in 2018. "DÜZCE GLASS, which currently has a flat glass production capacity of 1500 tons/day, produces glass thicknesses between 3 and 12 mm," he said.

Nowadays, glass material can gain very important functions as a result of various processes. “WE PRODUCE OUR OWN ENERGY”
DÜZCE GLASS ORC (ORGANIC RANKINE CYCLE) SYSTEM
As of 2018, DÜZCE GLASS started producing electricity by integrating the ORC system into its own system to generate electricity from waste heat. The waste heat used in the ORC system is at an average temperature of 420-430°C in the first line and 450-470°C in the second line. The ORC system produces 4 MW of electricity per hour in winter and 3 MW in summer. While 16 percent of the electricity produced during the year was used in the ORC internal system, 84 percent was provided as energy to the factory.
DÜZCE GLASS SPP (SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS)
In parallel with the increasing energy need, the demand for Solar Energy Systems (SPP) is increasing day by day. DÜZCE GLASS, which always adopts an environmentally friendly approach in the investments made or to be made, will complete the Solar Energy System (SPP) investment, covering an area of approximately 20,000 m² in the factory campus, by the end of 2022 and put it into full operation. By positioning the Solar Energy Panels in suitable areas on the factory roof; The integration of the generated energy into the system is fast and easy, without the need for extra space. 7456 Photovoltaic panels were used during the construction process of our Solar Energy System, which was installed on an area of 20,000 m². After the commissioning is completed, approximately 4,000 MW of electrical energy is expected to be produced annually. Considering the production values above, the necessity and importance of Solar Energy Systems is once again understood.
“WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED BUSINESS ENERGY SAVING AND IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS”
Akyüz said, “36 projects were worked on in 2022 in order to increase energy efficiency at the DÜZCE GLASS factory and reduce the costs spent on energy. In one of the projects worked on, the energy consumption values of the cooling water circulation pumps under the control of the auxiliary enterprises facility in the factory were measured, the necessary controls were provided and the revision of the cooling water circulation pumps was carried out. "As a result of this revision, new technology 15kW/h pumps at the desired values have started to be used instead of 2 old technology 88 kW/h cooling water circulation pumps," he said.
